Århus C
The Poulsen research group within the Department of Chemistry in collaboration with the Palmfeldt lab at the Research Unit for Molecular Medicine (RUMM), at Aarhus University, seeks to hire a postdoc for a newly awarded Novo Nordisk Foundation project focused on development of new reagents for protein modifications.
Within this project, we will investigate both bioactive molecules that work through covalent mechanisms and novel synthetic reagents for modification of native proteins. Overall, the project therefore spans from complex molecule synthesis to cellular and/or biochemical studies. State-of-the-art protein mass spectrometry is a central technology, and the present position is aiming to fill this key role within the project.
The starting date is 1. November 2019 or soon thereafter and the duration of the employment will be 24 months. An extension of the employment is possible.
Job description
As a postdoc in our team, you will e.g. investigate the proteome-wide target profiles of natural product derivatives with immunomodulatory activities and you will conduct the first mass spectrometric analyses of several classes of reagents that can target specific amino acid residues for bioconjugation applications. The samples therefore span from cultivated cells to isolated proteins and the required analyses involve both quantitative proteomics techniques, peptide mapping and single protein mass spectrometry. The hired person will serve a key role in the project by bridging between other team members focused on synthetic chemistry and team members working with specific biological questions using primarily cellular models. Furthermore, you will also serve a dynamic role between the two collaborating laboratories, with the primary location being at RUMM. Within the overall project framework, there will be opportunities to develop projects in an individual direction according to the interests of the candidate.
Your profile
You should have a strong motivation to work on interdisciplinary research projects within chemical biology and proteomics. Experience with protein/peptide mass spectrometry research during PhD or postdoc is required to be considered for the position. Experience with the analyses of protein modifications and/or bioconjugation-techniques is considered an advantage, as well as skills in data treatment and biochemical/biological interpretations. At least one publication in international journals with relevance to the topic is required.
All applicants are requested to enclose 2 letters of support/reference.
Place of Work and area of Employment
The place of work is split between the Department of Chemistry, Langelandsgade 140, 8000 Aarhus C, and the area of employment is the Department of Chemistry, Aarhus University.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.
Formalities and salary range
Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Guidelines for applicants can be found here.
Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Further information on qualification requirements and job content may be found in the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Danish Universities.
Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
All interested candidates are encouraged to apply, regardless of their personal background. Research activities will be evaluated in relation to actual research time. Thus, we encourage applicants to specify periods of leave without research activities, in order to be able to subtract these periods from the span of the scientific career during the evaluation of scientific productivity.
