We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher for a 4-year position as Assistant Professor to commence on 1 November 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Assistant Professor in Veterinary Pathology will be part of a team responsible for diagnostics and research tasks and with teaching obligations mainly in veterinary pathology.

Our research and tasks

The veterinary pathology research group is part of the Section of Pathobiology, Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, and its research activities focus on the development of models for human and veterinary diseases in mammals together with the development of new diagnostic methods. This includes gross and histopathological investigations of animal infectious diseases and welfare related lesions as well as laboratory analysis. Our research projects are typically interdisciplinary and involves interaction with a large network of national and international partners. In addition, we are receiving and handling carcasses to be analysed for notifiable animal diseases in BSL2 and BSL3 necropsy facilities, as part of the Veterinary preparedness, and have duties within the area of mink diagnostics.

Your job

The assistant professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • participation in work in BSL2 and BSL3 necropsy facilities
  • diagnostic work including examination of histopathologic samples
  • research-related tasks such as taking active part in developing the research collectively by e.g. joining common research projects, seeking external funding, engaging in knowledge exchange activities with fur animal veterinarians and farmers and conduction of field work, primarily on fur animal farms
  • obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication
  • The main teaching obligations with associate examination duties will be in veterinary pathology and possible teaching activities within his/her area of competences in veterinary anatomy

Profile

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills

  • You have an EU recognized education as a veterinarian (DVM)
  • You have a PhD in a subject area relevant for the above description
  • You have an active interest in gross pathology and histopathology
  • You have proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • You have excellent English and Danish skills written and spoken
  • You have ability to work in teams, including very good interpersonal skills and a high level of Adaptability and Flexibility
  • You are thriving in a highly dynamic and busy workplace, with ability to work independently and systematically
  • You have ability to document a high level of original scientific work in the relevant research area
  • If not already a Diplomat in veterinary pathology, the candidate is expected to participate in a residency training program in veterinary pathology in order to be board certified as Diplomat of European College of Veterinary Pathologists


Desirable experience and skills

Applicants with previous training and experience in animal pathology and validation of diagnostic methods, and pre- and postgraduate teaching experience within veterinary pathology and other relevant subject areas are valued. However, the section is seeking an optimal match between individual qualifications and assessed ability and skills. All qualified candidates will be considered.

The place of employment is at Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at University of Copenhagen. Terms of employment

The employment as Assistant Professor is a full time and fixed-term position for 4 years. Starting date is 1 November 2019 or after agreement.

Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Currently, the monthly salary starts at DKK 34,079 / approx. EURO 4,543 (April 2019-level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of June 28, 2013.

The further process
