Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen
We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher with experience in stem cell biology for a 2-year postdoc position to commence on 1 October 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Background
The Center was established in 2010 through a generous, unrestricted grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF). The vision of the Center is to strengthen interdisciplinary research that transforms our basic understanding of the mechanisms of metabolic health and disease, and to accelerate this knowledge toward new prevention and treatment strategies. The Center has around 200 employees from all over the world. We moved into new laboratories, offices and meeting rooms in the Maersk Tower in summer 2017. In 2018, the Center obtained new strategic funding from NNF to further expand and establish/develop five enabling biology and technology platforms in support of the new research strategy. You can read more about us at http://cbmr.ku.dk.
The position will be in the lab group of Professor Romain Barrès, which is part of the GECKO Consortium (Gametic Epigenetics Consortium against Obesity). This consortium, funded by a NNF Challenge Grant, aims to understand the cellular mechanisms by which environmentally-acquired epigenetic information transferred by spermatozoa to offspring can influence their development and predispose them to obesity. The GECKO Consortium is an international group of researchers from the University of Copenhagen, the University of Sydney and the University of Chicago, giving many opportunities for collaboration and insight from a variety of experts.
Profile
We are seeking a skilled and experienced postdoc in stem cell biology to study the effects of epigenetic variation at specific genomic loci on the differentiation of mouse and human embryonic stem cells. We are looking for someone with experience in stem cell culture, differentiation of ES cells in different lineages and general proficiency in molecular biology. The successful candidate will use a dead Cas9 -CRISPR system fused to the DNA methyltransferase 3a or the DNA methylation enzyme Tet1.
