The University seeks to appoint 1-3 professors of family practice to the Section of General practice, Department of Public Health to commence on 1 January 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. The positions can be part time (minimum 20 %) or full-time positions. The number of positions and working hours will be determined after the deadline has expired in order to match the research and teaching requirements of the Department best.

In Denmark family practice represents the citizen's first free and unrestricted contact with the health care system. The general practitioner uses a patient-centred approach, which is concerned with the individual, the family and the local community. General practice is characterised by long-standing doctor-patient relationships.

By employing the new professor(s) we wish to strengthen one or more of the following research areas within the field of family practice:

• Health for pregnant women, children and their families
• Complex patients with multiple chronic diseases
• Rational treatment of infectious diseases

When considering applications for the professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document a high level of original scientific work at an international level within the area of general practice (family medicine).

Job description

The Professor will participate in the interdisciplinary and dynamic research environment at the Section of General Practice, the Research Unit for General Practice and the surrounding environments at the Department of Public Health. The Section of General Practice and Research Unit of General Practice formally cooperate in a Center for Research and Education.

The employment as professor may be combined with part-time employment at e.g. the Research Unit for General Practice or clinical work in general practice.

The responsibilities as professor will primarily consist of:

• Research, including publication/academic dissemination
• Developing research programmes at an international competitive level in line with above-mentioned areas of special interest
• Academic and public dissemination of the results
• Acquisition of competitive funding
• Performing leadership, including the guidance and supervision of researchers
• Leadership in development of teaching curriculum
• Providing research-based teaching including associated examination in Family Practice at a pre- and post-doctorate level
• Consultation based clinical teaching in Danish language
• Engaging in the university’s internal and external academic activities
• Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
• Academic assessments

Required qualifications

The candidate is expected to have:

• Significantly contributed to the development of a relevant research field
• Good communicative skills in writing and speaking (Danish and English)
• A proven track record in attracting competitive funds
• Ample experience in managing research
• Profound skills in research-based teaching
• Document a high degree of original academic production at an international level, including considerable contributions to the development of the academic discipline
• Manage research and other management functions, e.g. engage in the university’s external academic activities, as well as knowledge and technology transfer
• Collaborative and communicative skills.

The applicant must be a physician and a specialist of general practice (family medicine).

Terms of employment

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities (2013).

Application procedure

After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. The Dean then appoints an expert assessment committee in order to make an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific post. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
