København N
A postdoc position is available in Jiri Lukas Group (Chromosome Stability and Dynamics) at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research, University of Copenhagen.
Research area
The main interest of the Lukas lab is how DNA repair and signaling proteins wire themselves into functional pathways, how these pathways are organized in the three-dimensional space of the cell nucleus, and how malfunctions of these mechanisms impact on etiology of cancer and other diseases marked by unstable genomes.
Most recently, the Lukas lab became focused on DNA replication stress and its role in fueling genome instability during oncogenic transformation, heritability of chromosomal lesions generated by DNA under-replication or defects in chromosome segregation, and rate-limiting protein guardians of DNA repair fidelity as potentially drug gable targets of cancer treatment. To generate a competitive niche in these focus areas, the Lukas laboratory has been very active in pioneering advanced light microscopy techniques combined with genome editing, genetic silencing and computation-based phenotypic readouts, with the aim to visualize fundamental principles of genome maintenance in its physiological environment.
The position is available in summer 2020. The starting date is flexible and will be agreed with the selected candidate.
Qualifications
Candidates for the postdoctoral positions must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). The successful candidate is expected to have tractable achievements in genome integrity research (original discoveries published as a first author in peer-reviewed international journals) and demonstrate broad range of skills in advanced light microscopy. Specifically, we are looking for experience within the following areas:
The new postdoc is expected to work in the area of spatio-temporal regulation of genome maintenance with an emphasis on stoichiometric aspects of major regulatory hubs, such as those involved in chromatin responses to DNA breakage or replication fork impediments. He/she will work closely with his/her mentors and peers while having sufficient freedom to develop his/her projects.
The Lukas lab is intrinsically very interactive and the new postdoc is expected to become an active part of this collaborative spirit. He/she is also expected to disseminate his/her discoveries on internal seminar series and by active participation on international workshops and conferences.
Place of employment and work
The employment is at CPR (www.cpr.ku.dk), a Novo Nordisk Foundation center of excellence established in 2007 and embedded in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, to promote basic and applied research on human proteins of medical relevance.
The Center comprises modern laboratories, supercomputer resources and state-of-the-art technological platforms including advanced protein imaging. CPR is an interdisciplinary international environment with English as the main language.
We are located in central Copenhagen, a city with one of the highest qualities of life in the world and a vibrant and highly interactive research environment. The University of Copenhagen has a strong focus on balancing professional life with a family-friendly working environment (https://www.ism.ku.dk/faq).
