The position In the capacity of a Category Manager, your responsibilities involve partnering with Senior Category Managers to articulate a well-defined category strategy and spearheading targeted sourcing initiatives for the selection of partners for new compounds. Your role encompasses the management of commercial relationships with a selected number of Contracting Manufacturing Organisations (CMO), ensuring adherence, updates, and fostering the continuous development of established partners. Your main tasks include:
  • Collaborating with senior management to develop a comprehensive category strategy aligned with overall business objectives
  • Instilling a strong commercial approach and mindset in category operations, fully utilizing available business intelligence and tools
  • Identifying market trends and opportunities to shape sourcing strategies, pricing, and responses to emerging opportunities, while also mitigating potential risks
  • Developing and executing sourcing strategies for specific materials in line with both short and long-term strategic objectives
  • Fostering and managing relationships with CMO’s to ensure consistent quality and performance
  • Facilitating training and providing guidance to junior team members
  • The suppliers of Drug Substance are located primarily in Europe, USA and Asia, hence you should expect up to 30 days of travel activities per year. Your success will depend on your ability to bridge the needs of the organization and the availabilities of the market through contracting partners, creating the best supply solutions for Novo Nordisk. With this in mind, you will apply a balanced approach to quality, delivery cost, and sustainability as the beacon that guides you through a complex landscape of business-critical decisions.
    Qualifications To be considered for this position, we believe you:
  • Hold a master’s degree in supply chain, business engineering, or a related field
  • Bring a minimum of 5 years of practical experience in a similar role, coupled with project management expertise
  • Demonstrate substantial product knowledge, particularly in chemical synthesis or related fields
  • Showcase a robust commercial mindset and excellent communication skills, enabling effective engagement with external partners on pricing and responsible sourcing
  • Possess fluency in both written and spoken English
  • Having exposure to peptides and/or small molecule, or similar products would be a strong advantage. As a person, you exude confidence when navigating large organizations. With a strategic mindset, you swiftly comprehend diverse business models and industry dynamics, influencing decision-making through clear recommendations grounded in solid data and analysis. Your role implies building trustful relations across and beyond Novo Nordisk, necessitating an outgoing personality, strong drive, and dedication. A change management agent, you adeptly negotiate with internal and external stakeholders at all organizational levels.
    You excel in translating strategy into actionable supply chain decisions, thriving in a dynamic environment. Your ‘can-do attitude’ and a touch of humour makes you an inspiring force in your work.
    About the department
    Strategic Sourcing (StSo) is the global sourcing unit in Novo Nordisk’s Product Supply division, and we are responsible for securing that we have suppliers in place that can support Novo Nordisk’s worldwide pharmaceutical production. Through collaboration with our global supplier networks, we ensure availability of the supply needed to develop and produce products that helps millions of people around the world to live with chronical diseases. Drug Substance Outsourcing is one of the departments in StSo and we source all non-commodity drug substance materials for our products. The department consists of several category managers with varying level of experience who together are responsible to secure Drug Substance Outsourcing in close collaboration with many internal and external stakeholders.
