Manufacturing Process Engineer to Biomason – Denmark

Since 2012, they have used microorganisms to grow sustainable, structural biocement® in ambient temperatures, harnessing the power of biotechnology to reinvent traditional cement and offer a planet-friendly alternative. Biocement will eliminate 25% of the concrete industry’s global carbon emissions by 2030.

Biomason is ready to launch their production in collaboration with IBF in their manufacturing facilities in Ikast, Denmark. To support the start-up of production equipment, technical services, fermentation, and manufacturing, Biomason is looking to build a specialist team that will be the link between the pioneering knowledge in the US, and manufacturing in Denmark – and later in Europe.

To support the manufacturing processes and technology transfer to Denmark, we are looking for a Manufacturing Process Engineer, who in short will be responsible for enabling the non-biology processes in Biomason’s collaboration with IBF. You will receive intensive onboarding and will be supported by Biomason’s specialists until you are ready to operate independently.

Location will be in Ikast, Denmark, where Biomason has a manufacturing partner through their partnership with IBF.

Your role

In your role as Manufacturing Process Engineer, you will join the team at the Biocement Operations Center in Ikast, Denmark, where you will be responsible for manufacturing process mapping and documentation and for the technology transfer. You will operate in a fast-paced environment and support the product development and product manufacturing within the European Technical Services Department. In this role, you will report directly to a Technical Services Manager, who will also work out of Denmark. Your key tasks will include:

Investigate root cause, drive corrective actions and collect production data and apply scientific and statistical methods to analyze document and diagram production processes
Define what data that needs to be collected, set-up data collection, track and analyze data, and drive actions
Develop and optimize production processes to achieve output, quality and cost goals
Identify process bottlenecks and devise solutions to resolve
Execute laboratory experiments to improve processes and troubleshoot production problems
Set-up and optimize process flows for yield, costs, and operations (cycle time, problem disposition)
Create and maintain SOPs as well as train personnel
Create and maintain documentation to transfer and scale technologies with external manufacturing partners
Own and drive the introduction of new technologies into the factory environment

Over time, and next to Biomason’s European expansion, you will have the opportunity to develop into becoming a European advisor and go-to-specialist when it comes to setting up new productions and processes.

Your profile

We expect you to be an independent and self-motivating specialist, with a highly data-driven approach and with the ability to synthesize many data streams, combined with a strong curiosity to learn more about what you do not know. You can use your specialist knowledge to support others, and you do this with a collaborative and team-oriented approach. In your daily work, you present yourself as creative, proactive, persistent, and with a flexibility that enables you to adapt to a fast-paced work environment.

In your work, you combine your distinct personal skills with following professional qualifications:

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Production
A minimum of 5 – 7 years’ direct hands-on and/or supervision experience with process optimizations in a technology-related environment
Strong knowledge of heavy equipment, production, and general plant practices
Experience with successful technology transfer to production scale
Flexibility in travelling up to 20%, doing site support for critical start-up and launch trials
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Flexibility in travelling up to 20% (up to 40% in the 2nd year), doing site support for critical start-up and launch trials across Europe
