We are looking for a Data Engineer who wants to join our journey on digitalizing and automating our laboratories to better support our scientists in the R&D organization. If you are experienced in IT infrastructure, IoT devices, communication protocols, programming and laboratory equipment troubleshooting, then you might be our new colleague to contribute to a variety of exciting projects.
About the department
Upstream Development is part of Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC) & Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) Development within the Research and Development organisation. Cell lines and initial process designs are received from the Research Groups to the department. Our task is then to develop the cultivation process and document that cell lines and the final cultivation process are suitable for upscaling to pilot plant facilities.
To support the departments deliverables, we are always aiming at improving our laboratory and pilot platforms both for microbial and mammalian cell-based processes. We have recently embarked on an automation and digitalization journey, where we are renewing our IT and Automation platform to better support data collection from equipment and integration with other data sources, as well as data analysis by the departments’ scientists, technicians and managers.
The position
We are looking for someone to be main responsible for operation and expansion of local IT systems to ensure robust performance and enable data integration and analysis.
Your responsibilities include:
- Operation and maintenance of local IT systems including the Osisoft PI system in collaboration with colleagues in R&D IT and NNIT
- Expansion of the Osisoft PI system including
- integration of additional data sources with the PI system using off-the-shelf solutions or driving the development of custom interfaces
- configuration of data structures and analytics in the PI system to support end-user visualization needs
- integration with analytics platforms so users can programmatically extract data from the PI system
- Incident resolution including troubleshooting laboratory systems ranging from sensors, pumps and balances, distributed control units, supervisory systems (SCADA) or centralized data storage solutions such as the Osisoft PI system
You will work in close collaboration with users to understand their needs and develop solutions. You will work in a non-regulated environment where flexibility to adapt to changing needs is as important as ensuring the gained knowledge is maintained. It will be part of your responsibility to establish procedures, manuals and training. In addition, you will collaborate with the IT organisation to understand possibilities and limitations of Novo Nordisk IT infrastructure and to create understanding of our needs and challenges.
Qualifications
You have at least a bachelor’s degree or similar within IT, Computer Science, Engineering or other relevant studies. Experience with laboratory IT/ Automation systems and the PI system are preferable, although experience with other systems will be considered. You enjoy challenges and learning by doing, find interest in the many aspects of IT and Automation. You are familiar with the fundamentals of Windows administration, IT infrastructure, IoT devices, communication protocols and standards such as Modbus and OPC, RESTful web service architectures. You can program in Python and/or in PowerShell.
