Would you like to bring your drug development (NASH) expertise to Novo Nordisk?
Novo Nordisk is seeking an experienced and highly motivated scientist to drive our efforts in the discovery of novel therapeutic molecules in non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) as part of a world-class research team within Liver Disease Research.
About the department
Liver Biology is a department within the Liver Disease Research area, Global Drug Discovery, Novo Nordisk A/S, dedicated to research within the cardio-metabolic field, in particular non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). This department has a focus towards building a state-of-the-art research platform, target identification, validation and in vitro evaluation of novel treatment options. Currently, the department consists of 11 employees, of which 5 are technical staff. We work in a flexible, collaborative, and cross-functional setting, while keeping focus on quality and goals in an informal environment.
The position
Your key responsibilities will be to significantly impact the identification and evaluation of novel therapeutic targets and the initiation of innovative drug discovery projects. As a scientific lead you will have the opportunity to guide a global, highly collaborative team in the discovery efforts and give advice to the respective management teams. Furthermore, the successful candidate will be contributing to the expansion of our translational research platform with a particular focus on liver inflammation, fibrosis, and regeneration. Besides, with your translational mindset and background within NASH, you will be responsible for the establishment and utilization of relevant molecular approaches, cellular assays, and inflammatory/fibrosis read-outs in order to investigate the mode-of-action of novel drug candidates and to progress our research projects through the early pipeline. Part of your job will be guiding laboratory technicians on a daily basis, sharing knowledge and scientific insights with your colleagues. Maintaining a broad scientific network is a key to success and you are expected to foster and sustain the necessary external collaborations. After all, you are expected to present your results to project teams and management using strong communication skills and stay on top of the scientific literature within NASH and liver fibrosis.
Qualifications
You hold a relevant PhD degree in Life Science (Pharmaceutical Science, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Medical Engineering, Biomedical sciences or related disciplines) and have a minimum of 5 years of experience in industry or academia, including a couple of years’ focus on early-stage research within biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry. You have a proven scientific track-record and a thorough understanding of NASH pathophysiology, including experience with target ideation and drug development processes. Moreover, experience in guiding target ideation processes utilizing large human data sets is an advantage. You have hands-on experience conducting experimental studies relevant to drug development with a strong human disease focus. Besides, you have a broad experience with various techniques such as primary cell isolation/culture, organoid systems, imaging techniques, and functional assays to study relevant read outs focusing on, for example fibrogenesis and extracellular matrix remodelling, or other relevant NASH pathologies. In addition, an understanding and experience using systems biology, bioinformatic analysis, scRNAseq/snRNAseq and RNAseq analyses, and/or genome editing is an advantage. On personal level, you are a self-motivated team player with strong communication and project management skills. You enjoy working in cross-disciplinary teams as well as independently on multiple programs in a fast-paced environment. You are goal oriented with strong analytical skills and have a track record of successful project management.
