The position
We are looking for someone who is motivated by and enjoys analysing data, developing advanced models and, deploying and applying these models for supporting decision making for short and long-term project portfolio generation.Your main tasks will include:Developing, applying, and maintaining flowsheet models for Process Digital Twins Using Sensitivity and Uncertainty analyses for process-wide analysis Identifying and testing potential ideas for process improvements and optimizations in collaboration with project stakeholders Developing models at varying levels of fidelity for representation of processes and facilities Joining a network for driving Digital Twins as an approach for designing/retrofitting facilities
This role presents an exceptional opportunity to contribute significantly to the evolution of pharmaceutical manufacturing throughout our organization. You will collaborate closely with similar teams in R&D and manufacturing across Novo Nordisk, actively shaping the future of API manufacturing.
Qualifications
The candidate should have the following or developing qualifications:PhD in chemical engineering or industrial engineering Specialization in Process Systems Engineering (PSE) is preferred Expertise in modeling & simulation, process design, dynamics, optimization, or operations research during PhD studies Proficiency in equation/object-oriented programming; familiarity with tools like PROII/Aveva Process Simulation, ASPEN Tech, INOSIM for process simulation, GAMS, PYOMO for optimization, and Python, Julia, or similar languages Experience in quantitative analysis for decision-making under uncertainty Ability to effectively communicate complex information to diverse audiences Curiosity and motivation for solving intricate problems using a systems approach For recent graduates applying, kindly include transcripts, a cover letter, and a curriculum vitae with your list of publications.About the department
As part of Novo Nordisk’s Product Supply organization, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients is responsible for manufacturing all API for Novo Nordisk’s products. You will be assigned to Manufacturing Development (MDev), a cross-functional area that works at the interface between R&D and full-scale manufacturing with a strategic focus on technology transfer, scale-up and process improvement-optimization. You will be employed in MDev Bioprocess Improvement-Optimization (MDev BIO), a growing area with 17 highly skilled colleagues, including 2 PhD students and 11 MSc/BSc students, working with advanced model-based approaches for designing and understanding Bioprocesses of the Future.
In MDev BIO we have a problem-solving mindset where we work in a dynamic environment to convert engineering challenges into opportunities. We tackle these challenges through multiscale modelling, we have activities in applied mathematical modelling, mechanistic modelling, process control, capacity modelling, supply chain optimization and computer science.
