About Cell Therapy R&D and Cell Therapy Development
Cell Therapy R&D is one of the Transformational Research Units within the Novo Nordisk Research & Early Development EVP area. We are more than 200 employees and cover the whole cell therapy R&D value chain, from research to product approval. Our current portfolio includes projects for the treatment of type 1 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, and chronic heart failure.
The Cell Therapy Development area includes non-clinical development, clinical development, regulatory affairs, clinical pharmacology, and project leadership. We are a small, dedicated team with a high degree of autonomy, that to a large extent utilises internal collaborations and external partnerships.
The position
You will be the medical lead in the development of cell therapies derived from human pluripotent stem cells and act as a medical consultant within Cell Therapy R&D. The role also includes project leadership of a cross-functional Clinical Development Team responsible for creating and implementing cutting-edge cell therapy clinical development strategies and plans.

The position
You will be the medical lead in the development of cell therapies derived from human pluripotent stem cells and act as a medical consultant within Cell Therapy R&D. In your role you will:
- Design and outline cell therapy clinical development strategies in close collaboration with research, CMC, nonclinical, and commercial development, as well as external partners from academia
- Collaborate closely with other Novo Nordisk clinical development functions to ensure effective clinical trial planning and execution
- Provide medical and clinical development input to projects, including disease understanding and assessment of drug development potential
- Present and discuss cell therapy clinical development matters at meetings with regulatory authorities, advisory boards, and internal governance bodies
- Build, expand and share knowledge within cell therapy clinical development in relevant therapeutic areas, including establishing networks and working relationships with experts and KOLs
- Identify innovative approaches to cell therapy clinical drug development, including the design and implementation of early and late-stage clinical trials

Qualifications
To be a successful candidate, we expect you to have:
- A MD degree, and a Ph.D. or doctoral thesis
- Clinical experience, preferably within cardiology or immunology
- In-depth knowledge of drug development in general and a clear understanding of the R&D value chain, i.e. the various disciplines and their complex interactions
- Substantial experience with strategic and planning aspects of clinical trials
- Experience in interacting with regulatory authorities and key opinion leaders
- Ability to lead as well as collaborate in a cross-functional team
- Ability to communicate complex scientific procedures with technical proficiency both orally and in writing. Advanced level written and spoken English is a prerequisite
Additional skills that strengthen the ability to perform in the role include:
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to complex multifaceted cell therapy projects that may include new delivery devices, new surgical procedures, different immunosuppression regimens, and various imaging and biomarker approaches
- Experience in navigating within an environment of high complexity, non-standard approaches, and diverse tasks in known and new therapy areas
- Work experience from a small or mid-size biotech company
